Ode to 9/11

September 11

How does one explain 9/11
to children aged 8 and 7?
How do we say
what happened that day
and honor those up in heaven?

My children will never understand
the hatred some have for this land
But I can say this much
our tenacity is such
that we’ll face the terror hand in hand.

Planes taken over by bad men
crashing again and again…and again
Do not let them brag–
Go fly your flag,
and shout, “I’M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”

   AMEN! Those damn cowards, the ones who hide their faces, too afraid to stand up and be men. To fight face to face.

   It’s got to be very hard to explain the acts of cowards to children. Mine are old enough to have knowleedge of the events but like so many of us the understanding isn’t there.

   How do you make sense of the senseless?

   Becka. Beautiful ode. I know you and I’m sure that you handled the situation with your children competently.

   I agree with Jinger. Terrorists=cowards. I’m proud of my country and I think everyone should be.

   I was so proud of my countrymen in the days following the attacks.

   I’m not so proud anymore. They’ve gotten complacent. They’ve turned their backs on the men and women who are dying every day.

   Did they miss out on the hippy movement? Are they trying to make up for their missing out on the antiwar movements of the 60s and 70s?

   I can honestly say that there are many Americans I lump in the same catagory as the antiamerican terrorists. Those poeple who boo military people. THe ones who bitch and moan because people want to pledge at the flag.

   I’ve seen people who picket a military funeral! for God sake! The person has given their life for the ultimate reason. THe defense of others. Their family is mourning ther loss and people have the GALL to picket?

   Those bastards are just the same as the terrorists who flew those planes into the twin towers. Their the same class as the ones who attacked hte pentigon.

   I’d like to ask those people who picket, those people who nay say, those people who stand against our service men and women: Did you picket the memorial services of those brave souls who died on flight 93? Did you stand at their funeral procession and taunt their family as the cars drove past?
   Did you speak out about the fact that these people faught and died preventing any more carnage?

   No? Then why act the way you do at the funerals of our men and women. Why do you show complete disrespect for our country and those willing to die for our protection.

   There is really no difference in my eyes.
